What is a designer receiving warehouse?

A designer receiving warehouse is a dedicated facility that accepts, inspects, and stores furniture and finishes on behalf of interior design firms. Instead of freight arriving at a client's home over months and cluttering an active construction site, every piece is delivered to the warehouse, documented, and held under your firm's account until install day. On that day, the entire project is delivered and placed in a single coordinated white-glove appointment.

What is a sidemark, and why does it matter?

A sidemark is the project identifier your vendors print on every shipping label. usually a short reference like "Belle Meade Renovation / Firm Initials." When freight arrives at DWS, the sidemark is how we route each piece to the correct project, even after every box is opened and inspected. Consistent sidemarks are the single most important thing a design firm can standardize; they prevent misroutes, speed up receiving, and make monthly billing crystal clear.

What does receiving cost?

Receiving is billed per piece, tiered by weight, and confirmed with each firm during account setup. Storage is billed per square foot per day, with the first seven days included at no charge to allow inspection and inventory. Waste haul and white-glove delivery are quoted as separate line items on your monthly statement.

We share the full 2026 rate sheet privately with each firm during intake. pricing is transparent, but reserved for account holders. Open an account to see the details.

Is my client's furniture insured while at DWS?

Design firms carry insurance on their own merchandise while it is at DWS. Our facility is insured for the building itself, and we carry coverage against damage caused by our employees during handling or transport in our vehicles. Every firm should confirm their own carrier and coverage limits before their first shipment arrives.

How does white-glove delivery work?

White-glove is a crew of two to six delivering to the room of choice (the team size scales with the install), unwrapping, assembling where needed, placing according to your install plan, and removing all packing materials. You or your project manager coordinates the schedule and access with our team in advance; on install day we arrive on time, work quietly, and photograph the completed placement for your records.

Can my client pick up their own pieces?

Yes. Client pickup is available by appointment during business hours (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm CT). Your firm authorizes the pickup on your account, and our team stages the pieces at the dock. We do not release any item without written authorization from the account holder. this protects both the firm and the end client.

What happens if a piece arrives damaged?

Every incoming shipment is inspected against the packing list and packaging condition. When we identify damage during receiving, we photograph the piece, note it on the intake record, and notify your firm in a timely manner (same day when volume allows, within a business day or two on heavy freight days), so you can start a claim with the vendor. When a piece is uncrated at the warehouse or at install and hidden damage is found, the same documentation process applies. you receive the photos, the noted defect, and our recommended next step.

Do you install outside of Nashville?

Yes. Our white-glove crews travel across the Southeast on request, including Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and beyond. Out-of-town installs are quoted per project and coordinated in advance with your project manager.

How do I open an account with DWS?

The application is one page. You share firm details, your first project, and your billing preferences. We review, reach out to walk through pricing and services in a short call, and set up your account with sidemark, routing, and billing configured in advance. From application to your first shipment is typically one business week. Start your application.
